LGA

The President fixes the bad road in my neighbourhood.

Local roads inside a Local Government Area are the LGA Chairman and Council's responsibility. Federal highways are federal; state highways are the Governor's. The President's role is national policy and the federal budget — not your street.

LGA · State

If my child's primary school is failing, it's the Minister of Education's fault.

Public primary education is delivered by Local Government Areas through the State Universal Basic Education Board. The federal Minister of Education sets policy and funds tertiary education. The right people to pressure are your LGA Chairman and Governor.

Federal

Senators and members of the House of Reps do the same job.

Both make federal laws, but they represent different units. A Senator represents one of three districts in your state; your Reps Member represents a smaller federal constituency closer to your LGA. The Senate also confirms federal appointments — the House does not.

LGA

There's nothing I can demand from a Councillor.

Councillors approve local budgets, oversee LGA spending, and represent your ward. You can demand transparency on how LGA funds are used in your ward and request specific projects through them.
